CisionScoop: John Kelly is the new director of data journalism at USA Today. Kelly was promoted from his previous position of data and joint investigations editor, a position he had held since joining USA Today in August 2013. Prior to that, he spent a little over a decade at Florida Today as local editor.
CisionScoop: Facades+ has brought on Jamie Ferello as editor; he will cover innovations in architecture, design, buildings and their construction. He comes from the University of Cincinnati, where he worked as a graduate student instructor. Facades+ is a digital outlet focusing on architecture, design and construction.
The New York Times has hired Nick Summers as Sunday business editor, effective May 21. He joined the NYT from Bloomberg Businessweek, where he was a features editor. Prior to joining Businessweek in 2012, he reported for Newsweek as senior writer, and also had a brief stint as a reporter for the New York Observer.
Subrata De joined VICE-HBO May 7 as executive producer and showrunner, replacing Tim Clancy who is now executive producer at large for VICE TV and digital. De comes from ABC Television Network, where she spent the last four years as vice president of multi-platform newsgathering. She has also worked for MSNBC and NBC.
Amidst continuous restructuring and staff cuts at The Denver Post, the following staff have resigned from the paper:
- Chuck Plunkett, editorial page editor since 2016. He joined the Post in 2003 as political reporter.
- Larry Ryckman, senior news editor since 2016. He has been with the paper since 2013.
- Dana Coffield, news team lead and senior editor, who joined the staff in 2003 as metro editor.
The Zoe Report has named Lauren Caruso managing editor overseeing all aspects of the site’s editorial direction and day-to-day operations. Caruso comes from Bandier, where she served as editorial director. Prior to that, she was site director at StyleCaster, senior digital editor at Allure, and staff writer at Refinery29.
Tiffany Liou is the newest reporter at WFAA-TV, the ABC affiliate for the Dallas-Fort Worth market. She comes from KWTV-TV in Oklahoma City, and prior to that spent two years at KWQC-TV as multimedia journalist, reporter, and fill-in anchor.
Houston’s CBS affiliate KHOU-TV has parted ways with investigative reporter Scott Noll. He had been with the station for six years, and prior to that reported for WREG-TV in Memphis, Tennessee and WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
