CisionScoop: The Points Guy travel blog welcomed Melanie Lieberman as travel editor. Lieberman comes from Travel + Leisure, where she started as the editorial projects assistant, before moving up to assistant digital editor and associate digital editor.
Splinter officially named Aleksander Chan as editor in chief, after he had been serving as acting editor in chief for the past six months. He previously served as Splinter’s managing editor and as a senior editor, along with stints at Fusion and Gawker as a writer.
Rita Dove, Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia, will start at The New York Times Magazine as the next poetry editor, starting in June. The new position with the magazine will not affect her teaching position at UVA.
Cision Blog regrets to inform its readers that David Wiegand, assistant managing editor for arts and television critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, has passed away. He started at the Chronicle in May 1992 as a temp copy editor, and was was soon tasked with oversight of the Datebook section. Most recently, he was the writer of award-winning TV criticism. He also co-hosted the To Do List on KQED-FM for a decade until signing off last year.
The Wall Street Journal reporter Mike Bird is moving from London, where he currently covers markets data, to Hong Kong, where he will be covering Asian finance and markets. His move is expected to happen this summer, but an exact date has yet to be announced. h/t Talking Biz News
Dan Mihalopoulos is leaving the Chicago Sun-Times, where he covers local government as a reporter, to join the Chicago Public Media station WBEZ-FM as a reporter. He will cover politics and government for the station starting May 28.
The HuffPost San Francisco bureau changed Eline Gordts‘ title from general assignment editor to deputy enterprise editor. Gordts has been with HuffPost since 2011, where she has held positions as the associate world editor, world editor and senior world editor.
Reporter Sean Bennett of the CW network affiliate KMAX-TV signed off of the station, and the show Good Day Sacramento, after six years. Bennett left television journalism for an unspecified position outside of the broadcast field.
Tech reporter, Debora Lima, left the South Florida Business Journal for a position at a public relations and marketing agency. She was previously with the Miami Herald as a reporter. h/t Talking Biz News
